Hi, my name is John Davies and I run a successful drum teaching studio based in South London called Drummin' Time. My lessons are completely catered towards your goals and aims with emphasis on playing to music. I've been playing the drums for over 25 years, finished studying my BA Hons in Jazz in 2002 and became pro in 2004.

I offer lessons to all ages, levels and abilities and I'm fully CRB/DBS checked.

Prices 2017:

Single hour lesson                       £40

Single half hour lesson (kids)      £25

Home visit (incl. of all expenses) £45

Biog:

Since becoming a professional in 2004 I've since performed and recorded in various ensembles across the UK and Europe in many genres including Rock, Funk, Jazz, Reggae, Soul, Folk, and R&B. I've been playing on the Greek scene since 2002, playing odd-time folk rhythms and traditional dance beats. I've previously worked with Donald Griffiths (no1 UK reggae band Aswad) on his solo reggae project and more recently worked as a session drummer for Ron Pope on his Atlanta Tour. I'm regularly gigging around the UK in various bands and also laying down recording sessions for various artists.

Teaching:

I've worked as a peripatetic drum tutor for primary and secondary schools for many years and I also taught at Drumtech Institute/Tech Music School (now BIMM London) for 7 years until 2011. I also write and deliver drumming courses and workshops for Soundminds charity.

I teach in an informal and friendly manner and utilise a variety of published and recorded material to ensure that lessons remain fun, motivational and inspiring.

Lessons involve the following:

Grooves, Fills, Playing to favourite songs, Hand and Foot technique, Coordination, Sight reading, Rudiments, Styles (e.g. rock, R&B, jazz, latin, etc), vocabulary (e.g stickings and phrasing), etc....
