Quick resume:

A student of Kenny Clark and Dante Agostini in Paris, I have been the
founder and manager of the largest private music school in France -
1982-1992. I have been teaching drums as well as training aspiring drum
teachers for 20+ years and the author of 2 drum books (in French language)
which have sold several thousand: 'La Methode' and 'B.A. BA Batterie’ and of
an extensive course about rhythm: 'Opening Number 1'. In 2001 I created The
School Of Rhythm in Forest hill, South East London, where I teach daily.

As a musician:

I am a professional drummer who has been performing for 35 years
internationally in all imaginable contexts: tours with household names, TV
shows, radio shows, clubs, circus, pro marching band, functions, music
festivals, jazz concerts... I established the 1st ever world record of the
longest drum solo (French Guinness Book 1986) - 24hours 40min on the sea on
a catamaran sponsored by the watch brand 'Jaz'. I am fluent in most styles
of music: Rock, Funk, R & B, Disco, Soul, Jazz etc.
I currently mainly manage and perform with my own dance covers band, The Val
Kelly jazz quartet which regularly performs in Monte Carlo and an original
alternative project.

As a teacher:

20+ years of teaching experience. Aside from my private practice, I have
also taught drums to year 7 and 8 students at Evelyn Grace Academy in
Brixton twice a week for 2 years.
Special needs children - Dyslexia and autism are always welcome.
I have been successfully  preparing students for the Grades of Trinity
guildhall and Rock School for a number of years; most of them with merit or
distinction.

Ages and levels:

All level, the youngest student is 4 and the oldest 73.

Fees:

For one to one tuition: from £25 to £45/h depending on package. Group
lessons are available from £18 to £30/h depending on package.

Studio:

Our drum studios are equipped with 2 or 3 drum kits and sound systems. They
are located:
(1) close to Forest Hill Train Station and over-ground in SE23. (15mins from London Bridge, 20min from Waterloo)
(2) in Penge (similar easy access) in professional recording and rehearsing premises.  Plenty of buses are stopping at our doors making it easy access for students living in Sydenham, Lewisham, Brockley, Bromley, Croydon, Anerley, Norbury, Camberwell, Greenwich, Earn Hill, Beckenham, Penge, Earn Hill, Tulse Hill, Peckham, Brockley, Streatham, Dulwich etc. I am open to teach in other local schools or community projects who want a professional drum tutor'
