About Josh Coombes

'Josh first picked up the sticks at the age of 11. It didn't take long before he was already playing live with the Jazz and Concert bands in school and with his love of rock music, he soon became a founding member in a band that would go onto record two records and play many shows before turning 16. During this time he carried on playing in the school bands which gave him his first opportunity to tour Europe at the age of 15.

After finishing his GCSE's, he auditioned for the world famous 'Tech Music Schools', now in association with BIMM in London where he would go on to graduate from the Diploma and Master Performance before turning 19. Since leaving the school and taking everything he learned with him, he has played for various bands, both his own and as a session drummer. This work has gained him even more studio and tour experience and has taken him around the world playing shows.

Josh is currently playing for his own band 'The Hype Theory'. The band has released two albums under Small Town Records (UK) and Twilight Records (Japan). The Second album, 'Captives' (2013) peaked at No. 35 in the charts on the first day of release. With their music videos getting extensive play on T.V channels such as Kerrang! and Scuzz, Josh has toured with 'The Hype Theory' around the UK many times, Europe and at the end of 2012, Japan! Josh has appeared at some of the UK's biggest festivals including Download, Sonisphere and T in the Park. As well as this, he played Warped Tour UK at Alexandra Palace at the end of 2013.

Josh is now working with UK band Tigress who released their debut EP 'Human' Produced by John Mitchell (Funeral For A Friend, You Me At Six, Enter Shikari, Lower Than Atlantis etc) and Max Helyer (You Me At Six). The band have toured with Metro Station around the UK as well as playing Warped Tour 2015 again at Alexandra Palace. Josh's drumming can also be heard on Tigress' latest single 'Powerlines' which had debut play on BBC Radio 1.

In May 2016, Josh got the call from UK band Young Guns to fill in on drums for their upcoming UK dates which included Slam Dunk and Camden Rocks Festival. It was the first time Josh has appeared at Slam Dunk, the three day festival that hits Leeds, Birmingham and Hatfield and was also the first time he had the opportunity to take on an arena stage at the Birmingham NEC Genting Arena.

Josh has also worked as a Drum Tech in Academies and Arenas around the UK with UK band 'Paighton'.

Work towards graded examinations. Beginners, intermediate and advanced players can study the Rock School grades with me and work their way up on a certified programme.

Or...

Work with me at your own pace with tailored tuition that covers all areas to develop your playing!

All ages and capabilities catered for. It might be that you've never picked up a pair of sticks before and are just starting out, or maybe you used to play and want to get back into the drumming community, or perhaps you've been playing for a while and want to concentrate on a specific aspect of your playing. Whatever your needs are, I can help guide you to your musical and drumming goal!

I strive to inspire and motivate the student in a relaxed and comfortable teaching and learning environment where all aspects of drumming can be covered.

If you're interested in taking lessons or would like to discuss anything, please feel free to call or E-Mail me and please take a look through my site for videos, press clippings and more information about myself and my career so far.
