About Duke Grooves

At a young age I was told that ‘music is music’, a comment I thought pretty obvious at the time but later realised I didn’t fully understand.  For over a decade I’ve had the pleasure of recording and touring with Rock bands, Pop groups, Jazz/Latin quartets, Funk outfits, Drum ‘n’ Bass DJ's and more.
My experience has taught me that there is no such thing as a ‘better genre’, that everyone’s music can be appreciated given the right time, place and audience.  Music is indeed music and it’s the exploration of its vast variety that maintains and strengthens my passion for each new project that comes my way.

I started playing drums when I was 11, and have had the privilege of being taught by some highly accomplished players including Ian Matthews (Kasabian, Ian Matthews Quartet), Mike 'The Oracle' Sturgis (A-ha), Pete Riley (Republica) and James Hester (Malakai, Cars on Fire).

I was awarded my RockSchool Grade 8 with Distinction, and have a BA(Hons) degree in Contemporary Music from the Guildford Acadamy.

I have been lucky enough to play all over the world with a variety of bands, including a European tour with Counterpoint supporting Shinedown and Soil, a tour as a percussionist for the Yardbirds (including an invite to Jeff Beck’s birthday) and international tours with the critically acclaimed tribute act Hells Bells visiting areas from Scotland to the Middle East and many places in between.

These projects have placed me in front of audiences ranging from the few to the few thousand, but regardless of the time, place and situation, I will always look forward to the new challenges and experiences that are presented by new opportunities.
