About Dave Vigay

I have been playing the drum kit for over 20 years. Since studying at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance I enjoy playing in many different contexts and teaching others with a shared passion for the instrument and music. I have played at festivals, functions, tours abroad and most recently as drummer and musical director in a play co-produced by the National Theatre.

I am a committed teacher with a strong desire to pass on to others the expression and creativity drumming affords me. I strongly believe in learning correct technique early in the process but always in a musical context so its application can be fun, exciting and rewarding. I am currently teaching privately as well as being the visiting drum kit tutor in a secondary school in the London Borough of Hackney.

Privately I specialise in teaching younger beginner students, as well as experienced students wanting to take their playing to the next level. I also offer adult introductory lessons.

I have had great results helping people meet their musical goals.
Whether you are picking sticks up for the first time or need help to overcome obstacles to take your playing to the next level I can help you achieve success.
Always thinking about the instrument’s role in music, my approach encourages creativity grounded in good technique.
We can work together to design tailored lesson plans and practise routines to help you reach your full potential.

As one of my students, you will receive a well rounded experience of playing the drums. This will include learning and developing good technique, reading music, rudimental studies, knowing how and what to practise as well as learning many grooves, fills and drum parts from well-known songs.
Through my own playing and teaching experience, I know what the obstacle are that often stop students playing to their full ability. These will be addressed in lessons in a positive and patient atmosphere designed to push students to realise their potential in a quick and effective way.

As with all my new students I would firstly like to hear about your interest in music and drumming and any problems you feel you are having with your playing. Then I would like to hear about your goals before deciding together the best way to get there.
To this end, I am happy to offer new students a free 30 minute introductory lesson. It is of course important that you feel happy with the teacher and have confidence that they have what you are looking for to help you achieve your potential. Please see my website for more information and testimonials.
